I can report from Firework towers that this week has gone well and truly with a bang! Our founding client, The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, has renewed our contract to deliver its PR campaign in 2013, which is shaping up nicely.
This time last year the Firework team was hired to re-launch the £15 million refurbished resort. The adrenaline flowed as the launch date approached in March, especially as Andrea and I were still walking around the new hotel in hard hats as the builders finished…..well……building it!
A year on and it’s amazing to reflect on how far the resort has come, with awards from The Good Spa Guide for Best National Customer Service, Marketing Cheshire’s Award for Marketing Initiative of the Year through to winning ‘The Leisure & Tourism Award’ from the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
In only twelve months, the resort has welcomed some remarkable guests. In May, it welcomed Salford artist Harold Riley to host a special dinner to launch the Riley Room, a private dining room which is home to a private collection of his esteemed work. As the country geared up for the 2012 Golf Open, The Mere welcomed the 126 national and international golfers for the Open Championship qualifiers.
Finally, in December, the resort hosted a performance from the BBC2 featured Manchester Airport Choir, deftly hired and trained by the highly talented choirmaster and broadcaster Gareth Malone OBE.
The Mere is now scoring highly on the North West circuit, not least with celebrities.
Steven Gerrard hosted his Foundation Charity Golf Day at the resort in October last year, the first time he’s chosen a UK golf venue. It’s now a regular haunt for premiership footballers, actors and celebrities across the region who come to relax and play the championship course or enjoy the spa, restaurant, bar or lounges.
With our 2013 plan signed off, we’re chuffed to bits and are already getting stuck in. Onwards…
